WHY ORGANIC.?
In general, organic food consumers, manufacturers, and
farmers strongly believe that organic food has the following benefits compared
to non-organic food. The health benefits of organic food are more based on
perception than real facts. However, the sweeping public opinion that organic
food is healthier than conventional food is quite strong, and is the main
reason for about 30% of growth in the organic food industry over the past 5-6
years. Much of this inflated support of organic food as a healthier alternative
comes from environmental groups who don’t want pesticides and fertilizers to do
any more damage to the environment, so promoting organic foods, which don’t use
those types of chemicals, seems like a good way to get the results they want.
The producers of organic food are also very strong contributors to the idea
that organic food is superior to conventional food.
ANTIOXIDANT CAPACITY
A NUMBER
OF STUDIES SHOW THAT ANTIOXIDANTS TEND TO HAVE MORE OF AN IMPACT WHEN THEY COME
FROM ORGANIC FOODS. THIS HELPS IN THE PREVENTION OF THINGS LIKE CANCER, HEART
DISEASE, PREMATURE AGING, VISION PROBLEMS, AND COGNITIVE MALFUNCTION.
ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE
NON-ORGANIC
FOOD SOURCES USE ANTIBIOTICS TO FEED THIER ANIMALS. THIS EXTRA DOSE OF
ANTIBIOTICS MAY ACTUALLY BE WEAKENING OUR IMMUNE SYSTEM. ORGANIC FOOD GROWERS

AND MANAGEMENT IN INDIA IS LARGELY UNREGULATED AND FOOD CONTAMINATED WITH
PESTICIDE RESIDUES IS FREELY USED BY UNSUSPECTING CONSUMERS.
“PESTICIDES ARE LINKED TO LONG-TERM
HEALTH EFFECTS SUCH AS ENDOCTINE DISRUPTION, BITH DEFECTS AND CANCER.” BESIDES
RAW AGRICULTURE PORDUCE, PESTICIDES HAVE BEEN FOUND IN PACKAGED FOOD PRODUCTS
SUCH AS SOFT DRINKS, BOTTLED WATER AND IN HUMNA TISSUES IN INDIA,” CSE SAID.
FINDINGS OF VARIOUS STUDIES
STUDY 1: LARGE NUMBER OF SAMPLES OF
BOVINE MILK COLLECTED FROM VARIOUS DISTICTS OF GUJARAT, WERE ANALYZED FOR THE
PRESENCE OF ORGANO CHLORINE PESTICIDE RESIDUES.
STUDY 2: ABOUT 23% OF THE SAMPLES OF
SEASONAL VEGETABLES COLLETED FROM GUJARAT SHOWED CONTAMINATION WITH ORGANIC
PHOSPHOROUS COMPOUNDS ABOE THEIR RESPECTIVE MRL VALUES.
STUDY 3: MONITORING OF BUTTER AND GHEE
FOR PESTICIDAL CONTAMINATION FROM COTTON BELT OF GUJARAT, INDIA INDICATED THAT
97% OF BUTTER AND 94% SAMPLES OF GHEE WERE FOUND TO BE CONTAMINATED WITH ORGANO
CHLORINE INSECTICIDES FROM URBAN SAMPLES.
STUDY 4: PESTICIDE RESIDUE ANALYSIS OF
VEGETABLES BEING BROUGHT INTO DELHI FROM NEARBY STATES REVELED THAT ALL THE
VEGETABLES SAMPLES UNDER STUDY WERE FOUND TO BE CONTAMINATED WITH PESTICIDES
WITH 31% OF THE SAMPLES ABOVE THE PRESCRIBED TOLERANCE LIMIT.
